I had to rush off the first day because of some other obligations so I took a chance on Monday to return to the Stone Bridge, which turns out to have a name. Here are a few more pictures. Now if I can share my work, you can share yours!
This is a pen and watercolor sketch of the Yahara River between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. I went for a walk one day to count all the bridges. In fact I missed on in the lagoon at Tenney Park, which is on the North end of the stretch. Lots of human and natrue interaction. There is a tradition in some art forms to put in a mistake to reflect human inperfection. That seems to come naturally to this author!
We are glad to say that the first Two Book Retreat event will have a class of at least 7, which is a great size. We do have room for a couple more in case you are siting on the fence.
Nancy Macgregor is an excellent teacher and she is bringing with her a number of her return students, including me! She will help us to see and paint what we see along the river.
I’ll be providing a booklet of selected “Two Book” texts. These texts help us to see in a different sense, the world around us.
Proverbs 3:19-20 (NRSV)
19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.
We have a back up plan for shelter if the “dew” ever turns out to be more intense. So far we are optimistic.
Like us onFacebook and get $5 off of the class price. Yes there is room, but we have enough students to start. The Weather is promising.
In collaboration with artist Nancy Macgregor (www.nancymacgregor.com) there will be an outdoor watercolor class that meets along the Yahara River in Madison. We are going to look and listen to the Word at the start and the Wold for the remainder of the course.
We want to create an opportunity to combine the areas of Scriptural study and the Arts.
We want this to be for everyone, not only for professional artists and scholars.
We hold that God reveals himself in Scripture in a specific way and Nature in a general way.
We want to emphasize the main stream of the Christian faith shared by all believers in all places.
We hold that observation and thought is needed both to read scripture and see nature.
