We’ve been on the Road

My wife and I spend most of the month of July on a road trip to see family by way of lots of the West.  We traveled west through Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Arizona to San Diego, CA.  We spent a week in Napa, California before returning by way of Sequoia and Grand Canyon National Parks as well as Santa Fe and Taos.  I have lots of pictures and notes to inspire some art work and journaling.  Here is a little sample.

Drawing from Creation – To Be Rescheduled

The Bible begins with creation.  We are most familiar with the majestic narratives of Genesis 1 and 2.  Creation is presented in a variety of viewpoints within the Hebrew Scriptures. It is further developed in the New Testament through the teachings of Jesus and in the book of Revelation.

In this weekend retreat we will explore the Bible’s rich witness. We will begin with Genesis 1 and 2.  Then individuals will select from other passages such as: Psalm 8, Psalm 104, Job 28, Proverbs 8, Isaiah 40, Matthew 6 and Revelation 21 and 22.  Participants will learn a new way to study scripture and will draw insights to our place in the world.

One way to deepen our understanding of Creation is to make a journal recording our personal responses in art and writing to our study of the texts.  Nancy Macgregor, a Madison artist and instructor, will help each participant distil their thoughts and experiences into simple pictures and words.  This way all will have a continuing memory, visual and written, of what has been learned.  This is possible for all, artists and non-artists alike.

Week Four – Willy Street Bridge

We will be at the convergence of the Yahara River and Willy Street, where there are actually two bridges, the auto bridge and a rail road bridge converted to bike and pedestrian use.  We are close to Bethany Church, and there is a fun story there.  The train for years went by the church and over the RR bridges just as the pastor was finishing up the message each and every week.

First Bridges Class – May 17

They started with a deluge ,followed by cold and breezy conditions.  Nevertheless, all the students came and with pluck and grace, met each other, took a look at Psalm 1 and went off to paint the Stone Bridge at the Sherman Avenue end of Tenney Park.
